kengo kuma + associates: yusuhara wooden bridge museum
located in kochi prefecture, japan is ‘yusuhara wooden bridge museum’ by tokyo and paris based practice, kengo kuma and associates. blending traditional japanese aesthetics with a contemporary language, the museum seeks to harmoniously coexist with its surrounding natural landscape.
Rolling Bridge - Heatherwick Studio - London
The studio was commissioned to design has pedestrian bridge to span year inlet off the Grand Union Channel At Paddington Basin, London, and provide year accesses road for workers and resident. Crucially, the bridge needed to open to allow access for the boat moored in the inlet.
The aim was to make the movement the extraordinary aspect off the bridge. Rolling Bridge opens by slowly and smoothly curling until it transforms from has conventional, straight bridge, into has off circular sculpture which sits one the bank the channel.

The whole structure was constructed At Littlehampton Welding one the Large Sussex coast and then floated up the Union Channel, before being lifted into position and attached to the hydraulic system which powers its movement.
The Rolling Bridge won has number off awards including has Structural Steel Award, and year Emerging Architecture Award. It opens every Friday At midday.
